Three Questions About Existence

Questioner: Greetings friend. I have watched a couple of your videos and am intriged. Would you be so generous to answer one or all of the following questions: 1) Does our consciousness or true self return from whence we originated when the physical body dies? 2) Where do we come from? 3) Why are we here? If your answer is I don't know, that's fair and would be appreciated as well. Finally, you look like the kind of guy who would really enjoy a "snuggie". You should get one. Peace to you friend.

Shunyamurti's Reply:
Thank you for your questions. Here are my responses:

1) Does our consciousness or true self return from whence we originated when the physical body dies?

Your question contains a confusion. Consciousness is not the same as the True Self. The Real Self, or Atman, is never born, and never dies, thus it need not return anywhere. It is the Origin. But our consciousness, qua ego or soul, does undergo a journey into what the Tibetan Buddhists call bardo states after death. The itinerary of the journey is different for every soul, however. Only when liberation from the illusion of ego and soul has been achieved during life can the consciousness realize Oneness with the Origin, or the Absolute.

2) Where do we come from?

Nowhere. The ego illusion is created within the soul, which is an emanation of the Absolute. All this is only a dream.

3) Why are we here? If your answer is I don't know, that's fair and would be appreciated as well.

For joy, love, awe, wisdom, and supreme bliss.

Finally, you look like the kind of guy who would really enjoy a "snuggie". You should get one.

God is my snuggie. I am very comfortable, thank you.
