Nutrition Class

The Sat Yoga Approach to Self-Realization and Liberation includes the purification of the body as well as the mind, soul, and spirit. Nutritional purification is an important part of this process. But what constitutes a pure (sattvic) diet? We are exploring a wide range of naturopathic, vegan, and raw food approaches, and it is hoped that people will be open to informed experimentation as well as research. Diet is an emotionally-charged issue for many people, and the Sat Yoga philosophy is that everyone must make their own choices, and change at their own pace. But knowledge is power, and by studying non-mainstream spiritual approaches, we can open our minds to the further reaches of what is possible and natural for humanity.

We are also studying the benefits and possible problems of diets ranging from vegetarian, to vegan, to raw and fruitarian. Radha's Kitchen has been offering more raw food dishes, lunch offerings, and satsang prasad.  It is important for many people to transition gradually and methodically from one kind of diet to another, in order to avoid unnecessary cleansing reactions or other negative consequences. In addition, we are studying the science of fasting, and how to best detox from an impure diet or a body that is contaminated with drugs, pesticide residues, and other by-products of our unhealthy culture. Our reading list for the course includes the classic writings of Arnold Ehret, one of the early pioneers of the modern natural hygiene approach to healing, Herbert Shelton, who was one of the most prominent researchers in the field of therapeutic fasting, along with more mainstream authors such as Natalia Rose and Cherie Calbom.
