The Purification of Love
The goal of spiritual development is the purification of love. Love is our innermost essence, our nature, and our fulfillment. But the love that is the very life energy of our Being is occluded by the false consciousness that developed in childhood and which has been petrified by unconscious conflicts, adaptation to social norms, and entrancement by ideologically determined limitations of our horizons. To free our minds from such constraints and open our intellects and hearts to our vast untapped potential, as individuals and as a united community of God-realized beings, is the focus of aspiration of the great work of self-transformation.
We have the potential to create a harmonious world, to apply our intelligence to the solution of all the current problems the world is facing. The obstacle is the human ego. The ego in its current dominant form represents a failure of humanity to grow to our ultimate stage of psycho-spiritual maturity. That failure must now be rectified. This is our transformational imperative.
Human consciousness is a spectrum of potentiality. Except for a rare few sages and saints, we have not as a species attained the upper end of the spectrum. We must do so now, and create thereby a shift in the planetary noetic field of collective consciousness. To accomplish this goal, we must understand the situation and have the courage, truthfulness, knowledge, skill, and humility to accomplish the transcendence of the ego.
At the most primitive end of the spectrum of ego consciousness, we manifest as frightened and withdrawn, needy, helpless, and infantile, while at the same time, we come across as furious, greedy, possessive, domineering, and ruthless tyrants. This combination of fear and anger leads to the controlling and invasive, yet also flighty, ambivalent, and non-committal attributes of the ego, making it insufferable in its relationships with others. At the collective level, this leads to a world of collective psychosis and sadistic narcissism, of wars, oppression, and uncontrolled destructiveness.
But at the upper end of the spectrum of our potential, merely awaiting our realization, lie the healing powers of divine love, wisdom, creativity, and synergy. What those powers can accomplish when they are unleashed by a significant number of liberated beings is unimaginable to most people today. This is the wonder that the world is waiting to witness.
But we must volunteer to be more than just witnesses, but active participants in the greatest evolutionary experiment ever undertaken. How to sign up to be part of this? Very simple: just shed your fears and your egoic defense mechanisms, surrender your life to the service of God and the realization of the true Self. Live without greed, self-pity, arrogance and egocentricity. Renounce the desire to dominate others, or to view others as sex objects or as means to any sort of egoistic end.
We must also let go of the fear of being exploited, abused, or abandoned by others. This can only occur if we feel the loving presence of God within or encompassing us in light; the emptiness of egolessness; and the inner silence of buddhahood. By seeing all beings as manifestations of the one Supreme Being, and experiencing the oneness behind apparent diversity, the absolute nothingness that manifests as all appearances in the phenomenal world, the cosmic intelligence and love that is the cause of the universe, we can let go of the fear of loss, the fear of death, the fear of suffering.
There is only one protection for any of us. It is not money, nor guns, nor barbed wire-encrusted gated ghettoes. Our only safety lies in surrender to the ultimate Power that has brought the entire universe into being. That power is nothing other than the Self. Through the purification of our capacity to love, the Self will emerge in all Her divine glory.
The test of human love is the creation of a harmonious and purposeful transformational community. Let us be inspired by the vision of our divine potential, and organize into a global network of well-functioning transformational societies to bring the next age of higher consciousness into manifestation. The time to act is now. The Power of Love is invincible.
