One name for our current historical moment could be Quantum Yuga. The discoveries of quantum mechanics have shattered the assumptions of the Newtonian paradigm that has too long held our consciousness in collapse, in the straitjacket of naïve pseudo-realism, the dualistic materialism that has successfully masqueraded as common sense. That common sense has revealed its true nature as the psychosis of ego-consciousness, otherwise known as Kali Yuga. We now have the conceptual tools to make a graceful exit into a new Sat Yuga—an age of higher truth and beauty resplendent with the true awareness of our transcendent unity. But to do that, we must de-collapse the wave function that has led to the appearance of the nightmare of demonic egocentricity that has settled upon this dying planet that was once our paradise home.
Using the insights from quantum physics in conjunction with the practices of the most ancient yogas, we can break through the obstacles that hold us in a state of helpless victimhood, reduced to mere onlookers in a world caught in the death throes of ultra-rapid disintegration. If we do not take this opportunity to rediscover our un-thought power to alter events, this time will soon become our quan-tomb. Through the silent chant of a quant-Om we can realign our consciousness with Quan Yin, the archetype of supreme love and wisdom, and thus be released from our quan-dary.
Release implies liberation from the current symbolic order, from imprisonment in false assumptions that have bound our consciousness in narratives of weakness and woe. This story has long been understood and set down in myths ranging from Samson and Delilah to Superman and kryptonite. Our weakness derives from misidentification of free awareness with the perceptual consciousness of the body. As an imagined body, we develop a natural longing for our imaginary origins, a neurotic nostalgia that produces addiction to anxiety and despair. (For Samson, it was the lost mother of infancy projected on the predatory Delilah; for Superman, it is the longing for the lost mother-planet, Krypton, whose particles now produce uncanny weakness.) Once the assumption is made that the self is only the computational apparatus of a physical mechanism located in a meaningless material universe, we have lost the key to free will, creativity, and the whole realm of the miraculous. And all our unconscious longing is for a return to the womb of death. That is now being realized at the collective level.
In order to gain the dubious fruits of heightened computational skill, which has produced industrialization, cybernetics, nuclear power, and globalized capitalism, we have paid with our souls. There is no longer a higher vision to guide us toward a sane use of the powers we have bought so dearly. We must rediscover the presence of the Absolute. Only in the surrender to the higher intelligence of the supreme awareness that is the root source of the universe as a whole can we save ourselves from defeat at the hands of our own narcissistic egos. This is the real battle of Armageddon.
Our obsession with accumulation, with quantity, has ironically led to the realization of the quantum, the fundamental reality of being—a state that cannot be captured by measurement, but which is inherently indeterminate. We have had to face the disarming fact of quantum entanglement, applying Bell’s Theorem, or of co-dependent origination, to put it in Buddhist terms, which reveals the sham nature of the sovereignty of the ego.
We cannot think our way out of the present mess because our categories of thought are part of the problem. There is no hope either for the individual or for the collective, because both of those concepts are illusory. Our paradigm is hopelessly obsolete, and so long as we are crucified on the cross of two-valued logic (hewn from the biblical tree of good and evil), we shall remain forsaken by the very God who is omnipresent yet made absent by our inability to apperceive Her.
We are all only apparently separate particles on independent trajectories through time and space. In reality, we are a single quantum wave. At any moment, a different sort of observer, one located in a dimension transcendent to the matrix in which our consciousness has now collapsed, at a higher level of coherence and consciousness, can compassionately cancel out our self-confounded constitution, and revive the collapsed cosmic quantum wave, convert the apparent particles instantly back into superposition, apply the principles of bose-einstein condensation and temporal reversibility to create a cosmic wormhole to connect one end of time to another, and re-deploy the heavens and the earth in the pristine beauty of a new divine beginning.
All this and more is possible. It is simple physics. But to accomplish this feat, we must first enter the Quantum Yuga, and we can only do that through the practice of a quantum yoga. Meditation is the method. Release all identifications. Return consciousness to the original state prior to all beingness, prior to the collapse of the quantum wave. Enter the pure silence of the presence of God. Feel the wave extending to infinity, an ocean of transfinite potentiality. Dissolve all concepts and images, cleanse the mind utterly, and prepare for the manifestation of a new reality. In the perfection of emptiness, the fullness of supreme intelligence will act through the medium of liberated consciousness to restore the reflection in the mirror of matter of the sublime beauty and power and infinite variation that can alone provide a worthy representation of the awesome reality of the Absolute. We are nothing but That. Therefore, the one thing we can be sure of is that this ultimate transformation and return to perfection will be achieved. It has already happened an infinite number of times in infinite universes. Uni-verse means the One who is always turning. Our turn is coming.
Namaste,
Shunyamurti
